Summer Art Institute Instructor Spotlight: Stacey Kirby

Stacey Kirby: Stitch ‘n Bitchin’ Books!
Book Arts Workshop – July 18-22

As you may have guessed, this class title references the social community vibe of traditional stitch n’ bitch circles, but “stitching” ain’t just for the knitters now, you know!

Stacey came to Women’s Studio Workshop, first as a studio intern, then stayed on as an AmeriCorps volunteer working on the Art Farm. She has a great sense of humor, a real affinity for fabric and fiber, and knows all the ins and out of bookmaking. Check out her class in the Book Arts section of our online catalog: North Carolina Museum of Art and Museum of History, as well as her studies in costume construction at UNC Chapel Hill, and at the University of Sussex in Brighton, England.

Like her work, Stacey’s class will blend machine sewing and bookbinding techniques for a fabric-focused approach to hand-making books! You can see more of Stacey’s books in her online handmade artist book image gallery.

To register for this class or to see our listings for an entire summers worth of intensive art workshops, visit our Summer Art Institute online catalog, or call us Monday – Friday, 9am – 5pm.
