This January Tana and Ann were excited to attend the opening of WSW artist-in-residence alumni Zarina’s exhibit, “Paper Like Skin” currently on view at the Guggenheim Museum. The exhibition, which features prints made during Zarina’s residency at Women’s Studio Workshop, will be on display through April 21, 2013.
Zarina’s relationship with WSW goes way back. In 1983 Zarina was one of the very first artists to work in the then newly renovated Binnewater studio, coming to teach a weekend workshop in handmade paper casting techniques. She returned the following July to teach her technique in a full week workshop as part of our very first Summer Arts Institute.
In 1991 Zarina was awarded an artist-in-residence grant at Women’s Studio Workshop to work in the intaglio studio. During the 4 weeks she was here she printed the portfolios, ‘The House with Four Walls‘, and ‘Ten Woodcuts‘. In 1999 Zarina invited Ann & Tana to present WSW’s artist’s books and prints to her class at San Diego State where for many years she taught a spring session of printmaking.
