Summer Art Institute Registration Information

Dont be fooled by our name, our Summer Art Institute is open to students of any gender.

Registration and Deposit
All workshops are limited in enrollment, so early registration and payment is recommended. Once you have registered, you will be sent a confirmation packet containing a receipt of payment, a materials list if applicable, and a list of housing recommendations that includes rooms in private homes, bed and breakfasts, motels, hotels, campsites, etc. Students are responsible to arrange their own housing. Students are encouraged to register early since classes are limited. To register, submit the completed Registration Form and a $200 non-refundable deposit for each class to WSW, either by mail or online. Your deposit will secure your spot in class until the tuition-due date.

Tuition payment and lab fees will be due in full one month prior to your workshop. If your payment is not received one month prior to your workshop, you may lose your spot in the class. Cancellation and refund policies can be found below.
Early Bird Credit: WSW members will receive a $50 credit* for enrolling online before March 31, 2011. Not a member? Join WSW now! (Early Bird Credit not available for collaborative workshops with CPW and R&F Paints, or for our workshop in Italy.)

Waiting Lists? After a class is full, a waiting list will open and students will be placed on that list in the order that their registration is received and will be contacted if a space becomes available. Deposits will be returned for wait-listed students.

Cancellation and Refund Policy
Women’s Studio Workshop relies on student tuition to pay our instructors and to maintain the studios and equipment. We spend a significant amount of staff energy in coordinating these workshops and a vacancy cannot always be filled, even if a wait list is available. Registering for a workshop is not only an investment in your own artistic growth, registration also contributes to sustaining the valuable operation of this non-profit organization.

Our refund policy reflects a need to offset the costs incurred by vacancies created by last minute cancellation.

Your $200 deposit is non-refundable

Cancellation BEFORE more than one month prior to workshop start date
• Tuition will be refunded in full, minus $200 deposit.

Cancellation less than one month prior to workshop start date
• 3-2 weeks prior to workshop: 50% of tuition will be refunded, minus $200 deposit
• 1 week prior to workshop: No Tuition or deposit will be refunded.

If Women’s Studio Workshop has to cancel a class for any reason, deposit and tuition will be refunded or can be transferred to another workshop. Classes need a minimum of 4 students to run, Students will be given 4 weeks notice if a class will be cancelled for under-enrollment. WSW is not responsible for non-refundable airline tickets purchased by students

Spend some time learning a new skill or honing your technique in a familiar one.

Housing & Transportation

Finding housing is the responsibility of each student. We have a complete list of nearby housing options, ranging from rooms in private homes, to bed and breakfasts and traditional hotels. Rates start at $50/night.

Because the Women’s Studio Workshop is located in a rural area, a car is very helpful, although alternate arrangements can often be made. The nearest airports are the Stewart Newburgh Airport (30 miles) and Albany International Airport (70 miles). The Adirondack Trailways Bus line stops in Rosendale and connects travelers to NYC and Albany Airports.

Everyday, class breaks for a 45 minute lunch at around 12:30. Your tuition includes healthy lunches. Weather permitting, lunch is served on our spacious and shaded back deck. Vegetarian options are always available.

Tuition & Materials
Tuition and lab fees are due one month prior to your workshop. These fees cover most of the consumable supplies associated with each workshop. Students may be asked to bring additional materials or tools. Some additional supplies, such as printing paper, are available for purchase at WSW or in near-by art supply stores. A materials list will be mailed to each participant.

Lab Fees
The lab fee listed with each class covers a certain amount of expendable materials and shared supplies and equipment. Most classes require that you bring some of your own materials with you. Information on what is provided and what is required will be sent to students after they register.

Class Hours
Class is 9am-4pm, unless otherwise noted, with a 45 minute catered lunch break at 12:30. The studios are open from 6am until 11pm, and participants are welcome to utilize the studio outside class hours on the days your class is scheduled.

Rent the studio beyond your class
We encourage students to reserve time to make art in the studios before and after their class dates. Each studio is available for rental on the days that classes are not in session. We limit the number of people working independently in the studio, so please schedule your studio rental well in advance. For more information on studio rental visit our facilities section.

Scholarships are made available to a limited number of students based on financial need. Application and supplemental materials are due May 1, recipients will be notified by June 15.

Sorry, scholarships are not available for our collaboration workshops with R&F encaustics or Center for Photography, Woodstock, or for our Italy workshops.
