This ceramics internship is designed specifically for young artists interested in functional clay.The Ceramics Intern works closely with Women’s Studio Workshop’s Clay Program Coordinator preparing for our Annual Chili Bowl Fundraiser.

During this mid-winter event, which always takes place on the last Saturday in February, WSW warms up our local community by presenting over 800 handmade vessels for sale. The bowls and tumblers are filled with chili, cornbread, and lemonade donated by area restaurants.The revenue from this community event supports into the ceramics program to buy and maintain equipment and subsidize Fellowships.

The Ceramics Intern has access to WSW studios in their non-working time and is encouraged to create work. This opportunity includes a private room in the neighboring Anne Atwood artist housing and a stipend of $250/month.

Ceramics intern responsibilities include wheel throwing and glazing both bowls and tumblers for the annual Chili Bowl Fiesta, helping community members throw, hand-build, and glaze bowls, loading and firing electric kilns, and Maintaining ceramics studio and equipment. Applicants must have wheel-throwing experience. 

POSTMARK DEADLINE: October 15
Notification Date: Applicants will be notified via email by November 15

Internship Length: 3 months
Internship Occurs: January through March following application

APPLICATION MUST INCLUDE:

  • Signed Application form
  • A resume
  • Three current letters of reference
  • CD with ten images of recent work and a slide script that includes title, medium, dimension and date. Please format and name images as specified on our FAQ sheet. WSW reserves the right not to review applications that are not properly formatted.
  • A letter of interest addressing why an internship at WSW is important to you, and what type of experience(s) you would bring to WSW
  • Applicants who do not want to receive decision information by EMAIL can include a Self Addressed Stamped Envelope (SASE). APPLICATION MATERIALS WILL NOT BE RETURNED UNLESS REQUESTED and adequate postage and packaging material is included with the application
